They supply turf grass and related products to a variety of industries, ranging from golf courses and athletic fields to lawns and landscapes. With 20 locations in nine different states, Advanced Turf Solutions (ATS) is a rapidly growing company with a mission to provide products proven to create a real value for customers, coupled with service second to none in the industry. The Challenge

When their old Operational ERP solution simply couldn’t keep up with their growth or provide them with the options they needed to increase efficiency, ATS realized they needed to look into an upgrade. And once they’d reviewed their options and taken stock of what they needed in a new software, SalesPad Desktop turned out to be just the partner they were looking for.

Advanced Turf Solutions’ Chief Information Officer Tracie Pruden says the company was on the hunt for a software system that would allow them to make tending to their growing customer base a priority, while at the same time tightening up operations and striving to help each department within the company work well together.

“As a distribution company, our operations team really needed a tool that would make them more efficient, and for us, that answer was SalesPad. Our [old] ERP by itself just wasn’t giving them the capability to do things quickly, stay on top of orders, and serve our customers in the way that they want to.”

SalesPad Desktop’s ease of use and intuitive user interface made a big impression on ATS. Being able to quickly train employees is key for the company as they continue to grow and expand their operations.

SIMPLIFIED, STREAMLINED ONBOARDING

Earlier this year, ATS was faced with a huge project: a complete overhaul of one of their existing locations’ Operational ERP system. This arm of their business, which had been operating independently, did not implement SalesPad Desktop when the rest of ATS did, and now the time had come to get that locations’ software and business processes updated.

Because this location had retained the older Operational ERP software for so long and had certain location-specific problems with the way that their system dealt with some of their products, Pruden and the team were apprehensive. The team was pleasantly surprised, though, at how smoothly the transition went.

“We were able to resolve those issues really quickly,” says Pruden, referring to the product-specific challenges unique to that location. “We would not have been able to do that without SalesPad. Especially with the workflows, and the customization we could do with reports, and just automating things in a specific way for that department...I think everyone was really nervous about the whole merger, but it worked really well. To make that all work seamlessly was really a big win for us.”

The smooth implementation was made even smoother by how quickly the employees at the location were able to be trained in using SalesPad, reinforcing how user-friendly SalesPad Desktop is, no matter the user.

“THIS TIME TWO YEARS AGO WE HAD MAYBE 300 ORDERS COMING IN DURING THE DAY. NOW WE HAVE 400 OR 500...WITH THE SAME NUMBER OF STAFF MEMBERS, WE’RE MORE EFFICIENT AND DOING A BETTER JOB PROCESSING THOSE ORDERS, AND I KNOW THAT’S BECAUSE OF SALESPAD.”

MORE SALES, BUT NO PROBLEMS

It’s a common refrain among SalesPad customers, but it’s one we really enjoy hearing, as helping our customers succeed is our number one priority.

“This time two years ago we had maybe 300 orders coming in during the day,” says Pruden. “Now we have 400 or 500. And I think if anything, with the same number of staff members, we’re more efficient and doing a better job processing those orders. And I know that’s because of SalesPad, because everyone who’s really processing the orders on a day-to-day basis, they’re using SalesPad almost exclusively.”

The ATS sales team prides itself on being the most knowledgeable and experienced in the green industry, and a superstar team of that caliber keeps the orders rolling in. By relying on SalesPad Desktop to make sure that all orders are processed smoothly, the operations team at ATS is able to keep pace.

BETTER WEBSITE EXPERIENCE WITH APIs

ATS recently launched a new website, and anyone who has launched a website knows that it can be a painful process. ATS wanted a brand new tool for their website that allowed their customers to request pricing and build orders on their own. Building this tool could’ve made the entire website launch much more difficult, but thanks to SalesPad’s APIs, it wasn’t. Pruden counts that as another big win for the company.

When asked if Advanced Turf Solutions anticipates ever moving on without SalesPad, she responded with an emphatic “No.”

“SalesPad is ingrained. We’ve done a lot with it. We’ve really refined it to where it works really well for us. Honestly, I don’t think we’d be where we are, with the growth that we’ve had over the last several years, without it.”
